28 September | Soccer

I signed up to play soccer, and my first game was tonight! I showed up expecting training, but training had been cancelled, and the coach asked me, “how do you feel about playing in a league game tonight? We need players; some of ours cancelled.” Of course I said yes and we headed down to the indoor facility, which turned out to be built under old railway arches in Shoreditch. Pretty awesome way to make creative use of urban space. The girls on my team were from Norway, India, Wisconsin, and London; it felt like an appropriate microcosm of London as a whole. We lost the game 3-2 but I wasn’t as much of a train wreck as I thought I would be. It feels so good to play again.
